Bike Repair Workshop at CCET Centre: A Resounding Success

On 12th October 2025, the CCET Centre hosted a successful bike repair workshop led by Rene van Rijn from the NZ bike Training Academy, also known as the Bike Professor. The workshop, which ran from 9:15am to 11:15am originally, saw an unexpected turnout of 16 bikes repaired in total. Rene was accompanied by four dedicated volunteers John, Ming, Jackie and Peter. Despite the two-hour timeframe, the team worked tirelessly for over three hours, concluding at 12:30pm, and successfully repaired all the bikes.
Our volunteers learnt essential repair techniques, including adjusting brakes and gears, cleaning and lubricating chains, tightening bolts, and checking tire pressure. They greatly benefited from Rene’s expertise during the workshop. Under Rene’s guidance, the volunteers learned to support one another in streamlining the repair process, which not only enhanced their skills but also strengthened the community’s connections.

The workshop mostly attracted Chinese participants, with one Islander attending to inquire about future bike repair dates. The atmosphere was lively, resembling a bustling marketplace, with over 40 people interacting and waiting for bike repairs.
Participants were eager to connect with CCET for upcoming bike repair workshops, reflecting a strong interest in community engagement and support. The overwhelming response to the workshop not only highlights the community’s immediate need for bike repair services but also underscores the importance of CCET in addressing broader issues, such as sustainable transportation and community health.

By offering these workshops, CCET plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of cycling, encouraging residents to embrace biking as a viable mode of transport, which can lead to lower carbon emissions.
