How to discard hazardous waste?

What is hazardous waste?

Anything that is flammable, toxic, corrosive, explosive or radioactive is hazardous waste.

Common examples include: most chemicals, paints, sulfuric acid and natural gas cylinders, etc.

We can’t put it in ordinary garbage or recycling bins, nor can we put it in the large garbage collected by the city council once a year, and we can’t pour it into the sewer. They are harmful to the environment and many waste transfer stations don’t accept them.

You can take other hazardous waste to these transfer stations:

Remark: Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island may be too far. Let’s click on Silverdale or Waitakere. Once you click on the transfer station, you will see their address, phone number, website, hours of operation, what hazardous waste they accept, and the price of accepting waste. If you want to bring your hazardous waste to them, please contact them.
