Winson
William, TK Yau
Miranda,
Repair Café started successfully on 24th June.
24th June. CCET had its first Repair Café at 308 Ti Rakau Drive, Pakuranga. When the news got out to the Chinese community before the Repair Café open, we had overwhelm response. We had many professional people volunteering as repairers. We had professional electric technicians working in the industry now or before. We had professional tailors for clothing repair. We even had cake shop owner volunteering and donating food for the volunteers. We had so many general volunteers that we had to thank and turn some down. Finally we had close to 40 volunteers and technicians on the day. Two Auckland Council officials came to congratulate us and one also tried our service. WTV came to report the occasion. If you want to see the news, click onto http://video.936.nz/watch_video.php?v=R2X252WKD7HD for the 26th June evening news. It is from 18:22 to 20:44.
It was not a fine day, with showers all day. Not many, many people managed to come through the rain. It was good. The technicians can take time to repair the goods and volunteers can take it easy to serve the guest. Everybody who came can all come in and enjoyed very good service. Everybody was happy and Repair Café serve the purpose of saving the resource and energy of those items that can be repaired from the landfill.
In order to provide enough lighting to the technicians, CCET bought 4 table lamps at $6 each. How cheap !! Each lamp just cost six dollars. When it is out of order, who is willing to go through the rain to have it fixed ? But, please look and think. How much man power, resources, energy we have used to make the lamp. It is not because of the $6 that we want the lamp repaired. It is an effort to help our mother earth, to protect the environment. Next time, the Repair Café will operate in Central Auckland. Please come, even it rains !!
