CCET co-organized with Department of Conservation

Conservation week : Kawau Island history and ecology trip

Kawau Island is an island in the Hauraki Gulf, can be reached by boat ride from Sand Spit which is an one hour drive from Auckland.  It has a very rich history and has a lot of exotic plants and animals including the wallaby. There is a very grand Mansion House on the Island. It was Governor Grey’s private retreat in 1860’s. On 14th Oct.,17 is the beginning of this year’s Conservation Week. We are very lucky to be able to get the Department of Conservation’s staff to take us through the island telling us about the island’s history and it’s unique ecology. There are only 70 people living on the island. On this Royal Mail Run cruise, we will be able to see some of the houses and the people living there on Kawau Island.  We will visit the Mansion House and have an hour’s easy stroll on the island.
